before you get started, i thought it might be helpful if i shed a little light on this big bad future of ours.
first of all, in case you were wondering, this concept is, as far as i know, 100% original, having sprouted from my overactive imagination. the world it's set in, also, is utterly fictional, though i'm sure if you look, some parallels can be drawn to both Milwaukee and Madison, Wisconsin. thanks go to miss Ally for most of the names and locations.
secondly, now that the credits are out of the way, is a list of important things you should probably know before you get started.
- not everybody who has been Cured is developing abilities, just as not all scientists are hunting the Gifted. both are minorities for the time being, and very secret minorities at that. most people don't know about the Gifted, and even less know about the scientists hunting them. all they know about it is that people have been disappearing.
- nobody (except a few scientists) know that the Cure is the cause for abilities. only Cured people are becoming Gifted, but very few people have made the connection.
- abilities are all dictated by the human mind. abilities such as acid spit, superman-like invincibility (bullets bouncing off, etc.) size-changing, shape-shifting, etc are not abilities that are accepted on this site.
- abilities can make themselves known at any point in a person's life, and at any time after receiving the cure: there is no set time limit or age for them.
- abilities can vary in strength; for example, telepathy can be all-out mind reading, or merely the ability to tell if someone is telling the truth or not.
- abilities do not make you all-powerful, or all-knowing, so when you write, don't act like they do.
- aside from the lack of hospitals (and lack of need for them) most major things are ultimately unchanged from 2012 to 2028. granted, that's pushing the "realistic" line a bit, but for the sake of those of us rp-ers who aren't time lords, keeping it similar will most likely be easiest.
- not everybody has been Cured, although most have; some people are still susceptible to illness, though with less people capable of spreading disease, the uncured don't get sick often.
- that being said, one would expect there to be segregation between Cured and uncured, but the Cure prevents people who have received it from getting sick, so, while Cured people may have difficulty understanding why the uncured want to still get sick, in most cases, there isn't much segregation.
- the Cure only fixes illnesses. runny noses from climate change, headaches, cramps, injuries, etc. are all still in existence. hospitals have fallen into disrepair, but there are still doctors' offices here and there for things like broken bones.
- lastly, the plot is subject to change. so don't get your knickers in a twist if this list gets bigger.
